Kennengelernt haben Klaus Pomella und ich uns 2014 auf der Messe Orgatec in Köln. Mich haben das hochwertige Design und die exklusiven Modelle sofort angesprochen. Der amerikanische Markt funktioniert nach seinen eigenen Regeln: kurze Lieferzeiten, anderer Geschmack in Sachen Stoffe und Muster, komplizierte Zollformalitäten. So entstand die Idee einer gemeinsamen Kooperation. Für uns bot sich dadurch die Möglichkeit fertig entwickelte Modelle in italienischem Design anbieten zu können. Und rossin hat mit uns einen starken Lizenzpartner gewonnen. Damit war der Grundstein für eine erfolgreiche und langjährige Partnerschaft gelegt. Im Übrigen verstehen wir uns beide menschlich auch sehr gut! Klaus Pomella ed io ci siamo conosciuti nel 2014 alla fiera Orgatec di Colonia. Sono stato subito attratto dal design di alta qualità e dai modelli esclusivi. Interview mit Interview with Intervista con Was gefällt Ihnen an der Zusammenarbeit mit rossin? Menschen zu treffen und Ideen auszutauschen, ist für mich der stärkste Antriebsfaktor. In Italien ist das Unternehmertum von der Lebenskunst und der Kultur geprägt, und diese Haltung entspricht meinen Werten. Wo und wann sind Sie rossin begegnet und wie hat die Zusammenarbeit begonnen? Ich hatte die Gelegenheit, Klaus Pomella vor fast fünfundzwanzig Jahren kennen zu lernen, als er für einen Designhersteller arbeitete. Klaus ist sehr professionell und hat Sinn für Humor und Selbstironie. Das gefiel mir auf Anhieb. Wie entstand das Modell stampede? Ich hatte diese Idee, als ich auf der Orgatec in Köln auf einem statischen pilzförmigen Sitzkissen saß. Nach zehn Minuten hat mich mein Rücken schon umgebracht! Die Idee hinter stampede ist nicht so sehr, dass er schaukelt, sondern dass man seine Position variieren kann, und zwar auf spontane Weise. Es gibt ein Sprichwort, das besagt: “Die beste Sitzposition – die nächste...”. Mit anderen Worten: Wir müssen uns bewegen! Wie war Ihr Werdegang und wie wurden Sie zum Industrie-Designer? Nach meiner Ausbildung zum Fotografen, habe ich Grafik studiert und mich dem Möbelbau zugewandt. Mich hat die Welt der Möbel schon immer fasziniert. Als CEO eines Unternehmens für modulare Ausstellungssysteme, habe ich die wirtschaftlichen Aspekte einer Produktion besser verstehen gelernt. Heute ein großer Vorteil in meiner Tätigkeit als Industriedesigner. Schließlich bin ich zu meiner ersten Liebe zurückgekehrt – dem Design von Möbeln und Produkten. Wie sieht Ihre Tätigkeit als Professor an der Fakultät für Industriedesign der Universität Montréal aus? Mir gefällt der Kontakt mit jungen Menschen. Die Welt verändert sich schnell, Technologien entwickeln sich in rasantem Tempo. Es ist mir sehr wichtig meine Studenten auf die reale Berufswelt vorzubereiten. Was schließlich zeitlos bleibt, ist die Neugierde. Ohne Neugier gibt es keine Idee, keine Kreation, keine guten Designer. Dies ist die grundlegende Botschaft, die ich zu vermitteln versuche. What do you like about working with rossin? Meeting people and exchanging ideas is for me the most powerful driving factor. In Italy, the approach to entrepreneurship is influenced by the art of living and culture and this attitude is in line with my values. Where and when did you meet rossin and started working for them? I had the opportunity to meet Klaus Pomella almost twenty-five years ago when he was working for a design-manufacturer. Klaus showed himself to be very professional with a teasing sense of humour and self-mockery. I liked him straight away. How did you come to model stampede? I had this idea while sitting on a static mushroom-shaped pouf at a lecture during the Orgatec fair in Cologne. After ten minutes my back was already killing me! The idea behind stampede is not so much that it rocks, but that you can vary its position in a spontaneous way. There’s a kind of proverb that says: “the best sitting position – the next one...”. In other words, we need to move! Could you tell us about your background and how did you become an Industrial Designer? I graduated as a photographer, then went on to graphic arts and then to cabinetmaking. As CEO of a company for almost ten years, I was able to integrate and better understand the realities of production and business. This is now a very strong asset in my design practice. Finally, I have returned to my first love – the design of furniture and products for the habitat. What about your career as Professor at the School of industrial design in the University of Montréal? I love the contact with young people. The world is changing fast, technologies are developing at lightning speed. I emphasise, among other things, the preparation of my students for the real world of design practice. Finally, what remains timeless is curiosity. Without curiosity, there is no idea, no creation, no good designers. The egg shape offers different ways to sit: like a cowboy or an Amazon. In 2020 stampede won the Grands Prix du Design Canada award. Incontrare persone e scambiare idee è per me il fattore trainante più potente. In Italia, l’approccio all’imprenditoria è influenzato dall’arte di vivere e dalla cultura e questo atteggiamento è in linea con i miei valori. Come e quando ha conosciuto rossin e ha iniziato a lavorare per loro? Ho avuto l’opportunità di conoscere Klaus Pomella quasi venticinque anni fa, quando lavorava come Responsabile Vendite per un produttore di mobili. Klaus si è rivelato molto professionale e allo stesso tempo con uno spiccato senso dell’umorismo e dell’autoironia. Questa sua personalità mi è piaciuta subito. Com’è nato il modello stampede? Ho avuto questa idea mentre ero seduto su un pouf piuttosto rigido a forma di fungo ad una conferenza durante la fiera Orgatec di Colonia. Dopo dieci minuti la mia schiena gridava aiuto! L’idea di stampede non è tanto quella di poter dondolare sulla sua base in legno, ma quella piuttosto di poter regolare e variare la propria postura in modo del tutto spontaneo. Vale quindi quel detto che dice: “la migliore posizione di seduta – la prossima...”. In altre parole, dobbiamo muoverci! Può parlarci del suo background e di come è diventato un Industrial Designer? Mi sono diplomato come fotografo, poi sono passato alle arti grafiche e quindi all’ebanisteria. Da quando mi ricordo, il mondo dell’arredamento mi ha sempre affascinato. In seguito ho aperto una mia azienda che progettava e produceva sistemi espositivi modulari. Qui, per quasi dieci anni in qualità di amministratore delegato, ho potuto ampliare e comprendere meglio le realtà della produzione e del mondo business. E questo bagaglio di esperienza rappresenta ora una risorsa molto forte nella pratica del mio lavoro. Infine, sono tornato al mio primo amore: il design di mobili e prodotti per l’arredo. E cosa ci dice della Sua carriera come professore alla Scuola di design industriale dell’Università di Montréal? Trovo il contatto con i giovani stimolante. La loro energia e soprattutto il loro senso di gruppo mi toccano molto. Il mondo sta cambiando velocemente, le tecnologie si stanno sviluppando alla velocità della luce. Cerco di puntare, tra le altre cose, alla loro preparazione per il mondo del lavoro. Infine, ciò che conta sempre è la curiosità. Senza curiosità, non c’è idea, non c’è creazione, non ci sono buoni designer. Wir produzieren in unserem Werk in Tirol/Österreich und in Produktionsstätten in Norditalien. At rossin, we pay attention to short distances and sustainable production when manufacturing our products. Production takes place in our factory in Tyrol/Austria or in production facilities in Northern Italy. Alla rossin, quando produciamo i nostri prodotti prestiamo particolare attenzione alla prossimità dei nostri fornitori e alla sostenibilità. Was war der Grund für die Entscheidung mit rossin zusammenzuarbeiten? Der Mix aus Design, Qualität und die schnelle und problemlose Umsetzung von Sonderwünschen waren für uns entscheidend. Auch das Preis-Leistungsverhältnis passt sehr gut. Beschreiben Sie uns was den Besucher des Palais Campofranco erwartet? In erster Linie ein tolles Gesamtkonzept, welche jede Neugier wecken sollte. Wir haben neben dem Hauptgebäude in dem das neue Restaurant untergebracht ist auch einen riesigen Außenbereich mit Loungemöbeln über den Dächern von Bozen, weiters befindet sich auf dem Gebäudekomplex eine restaurierte Pagode, welche mit dem rauchigen Flair ein tolles Ambiente bietet. Da ich sehr viel die Welt bereist habe und auf unzähligen internationalen Events tätig war und bin, kommen da im Laufe der Zeit sehr viele Ideen zusammen. In der Planungsphase für dieses tolle Projekt, galt es unsere Ideen bestmöglich mit einheimischen Betrieben vor Ort im Detail zu planen und umzusetzen. In addition to the main building, which houses the new restaurant, we also have a huge outdoor area with lounge furniture overlooking Bolzano. The building complex also houses a restored pagoda which offers a great ambience with its smoky flair. Having travelled the world and having participated in countless international events, I have been exposed to tons of ideas over time. Cosa vi ha fatto decidere per rossin? Il mix di design, la qualità e la veloce realizzazione di richieste speciali sono stati decisivi per noi. Anche il rapporto qualità-prezzo è stato vantaggioso. Cosa devono aspettarsi i visitatori del Palais Campofranco? Prima di tutto, un concept innovativo che dovrebbe suscitare la curiosità di tutti. Oltre all’edificio principale, che ospita il nuovo ristorante, abbiamo anche un enorme spazio esterno arredato con mobili lounge sopra i tetti di Bolzano. Inoltre, c’è una pagoda restaurata nel complesso dell’edificio di grande atmosfera con il suo smocky flair.
